If your Baxi boiler has ground to a halt and flashed up E119, you are probably standing there in a cold house wondering whether this is a five-minute fix or the start of an expensive week. What does E119 mean on a Baxi boiler

E119 is Baxi's code for low water pressure in the central heating system. Your boiler needs a minimum pressure, usually around 1 bar, to circulate hot water safely through the system. When pressure drops below that threshold, the boiler locks itself out rather than risk running dry or damaging the heat exchanger.

You will normally see the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler sitting well below the green zone, often close to zero, when this fault appears.

How to fix E119 yourself

Most Baxi boilers can be repressurised in a few minutes using the filling loop, a braided hose that connects to the mains water supply under the boiler.

  1. Turn off the boiler
  2. Locate the filling loop and open both valves slowly
  3. Watch the pressure gauge until it reaches around 1 to 1.5 bar
  4. Close both valves firmly
  5. Reset the boiler following the instructions on the display or in your manual

If pressure holds steady after this, you are done. If it drops again within a day or two, there is likely a leak that needs finding, and that is a job for a Gas Safe engineer rather than a DIY fix.

When to call an engineer

Call in help if:

  • Pressure keeps dropping after you have topped it up more than once
  • You cannot find the filling loop or feel unsure about the process
  • There are visible damp patches, drips, or staining near the boiler or pipework
  • The boiler still shows E119 after repressurising and resetting
